A Hotel Trier is located alongside the Moselle River in Germany’s famous Mosel wine region. It lies very near the border with Luxembourg in a low-lying valley in the west German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Its population is just over 105,000 people, making it the fourth largest city in that state.
Trier is home to the annual summer Roman festival–the biggest such festival in Germany–and an Christmas market which is held in this city’s main square. It has also been the site of the German leg of the World Rally Championship since 2000. Visitors to the city would be wise to plan a visit during one of these times.
Transportation via train and highway in and out of town is easy from nearby Cologne and Luxembourg. The nearest airport here is found in Luxembourg, about 50km away. River cruises along the scenic Moselle River are another transportation option.
This is by far the oldest city in Germany, and thus, has an amazing history with many ancient ruins and landmarks. The most well-known of these ruins and landmarks are the local Cathedral, Roman amphitheater, Roman bath ruins, the most well preserved Roman gate in the country, Porta Nigra; and the oldest continuously used Roman bridge north of the Alps, the old Roman bridge. Well-known churches there include the Church of St. Paulin, St. Matthias Abbey, and the Constantine Basilica.
It is also home to some important historical museums, such as the Stadtmuseum Simeonstif, showing the local long history; the Toy Museum, and the Rheinisches Landesmuseum, which houses some of the most vital Roman artifacts in the country. Fort Worth, Texas, in America, is sister cities with this one along with a few other world cities. It has a few well-known educational institutions, including the historical University, which has roots dating as far back as the fifteenth century.
Walking is by far the best way to see the city and get around, although having a car would be beneficial if the visitors want to go to the stadium. There are accommodations to suit all budgets, from hostels to higher end hotels. Inexpensive and delicious meals can be had all over, and street type food include kebab carts and pizza.
Hotel Trier is found in one of the country’s wine areas, and guests here should be sure to taste the local wines at least once. Of course German beer cannot be left out, and there are many brands available in the city.
