Spend Your Holidays On The Dalmation Coast

Croatia is one of Europe’s best cheap holiday destinations, yet is still largely untouched and unaffected by the crowds of tourists you expect in other parts of the Continent. The striking beauty of the Dalmation coast and the mountainous plains inland make Croatia one of the most attractive places to spend your holidays. Whether you want history or sunshine or both, you’ll be able to find it here.

The great walled city of Dubrovnik juts out into the ocean at the end of the Croatian coastline, and it is easy to imagine it in all its glory in medieval times. The city’s beauty has earned it the moniker “the pearl of the Adriatic”. Step back in time as you explore its cobbled streets, walk atop its medieval walls, watch brave swimmers diving off the rocky crags, or pop into the oldest operating pharmacy in Europe, which dates back to 1317. There are also some great beaches nearby if you feel like a dip.

Split is one of the most well-known places in Croatia as its where most flights will come into from other parts of Europe. This is great for Split, and with so many late deals to Croatia, more people are discovering the charm of this sleepy seaside city. The ancient Palace and street markets add to the cultural colour, and there are rows of restaurants along the waterfront, the perfect place to sit and watch the sun go down as you plan your next day’s island hopping.

You’ll also be able to indulge in some retail therapy in Split – the city has a great modern pedestrian street with all kinds of shops selling fashion and other goods.

There is also Pula, in north Croatia, which houses a massive range of ancient Roman sites and monuments. These are largely in great condition and you should definitely do some research before to understand the significance of what you’re looking at. If you’re keen on history but also want to get out into the water, go wreck diving… or just spend your holidays in Pula lying on the beach with a really good book
