The Reasons to Visit Gran Canaria?

Gran Canary accounts for over a third of the total population of the Canary Islands, and so is not surprisingly the second most populous island in the archipelago. The near circular coastline contains some incredibly varies landscape, including lush forest land, deep craggy ravines and barren stretches of volcanic rock, meaning that the island supports many different kinds of plant and animal life. If that hasn’t convinced you to book a ticket then here is a few examples of the kind of things you can do on Gran Canaria.

To really get to the heart of the natural beauty of the island, you may have to walk a long way. Fortunately, however, there are many companies offering safaris across the island, on which you will see plenty of the wildlife on the island, and get a taste of the variety of landscapes. If this isn’t extreme enough for you, then there’s always the option of the helicopter tour!

The life underwater is also very worthy of your attention. There are lots of tours you can go on to see whales and dolphins. These tours take you out on a specially designed quiet boat (so the animals don’t get scared) with a glass bottom so you can get a really good look at the wildlife. Various types of dolphin, such as the Bottlenose, and different kinds of whales, such as Pilot whales and the rare Beaked whale, are among some of the animals you will see.

A more fearsome water dwelling creature can be seen at Cocodrilo Park which is home to the biggest collection of the crocodiles in Europe. Or if you fancy a swim without risking the loss of a limb, then you might want to visit Ocean Park, which is a water park offering slides and wave machines.

With all the amazing wildlife on offer it’s easy to forget about a certain other animal that has called the island home: humanity. At the many museums and galleries across the island the history of the Canary islands is told, and it really is a fascinating tale.
